We have provided a template letter below to help you draft an email. You can use it verbatim or add your own words and voice.

Dear Alderman Hopkins,

Thank you for valuing resident feedback and for your support of the greater Old Town Community.  I am writing to you today to encourage you to reject the current Fern Hill proposal for a massive 44-story tower at North and Wells (on a small lot). This development is far too dense for this already traffic-congested area. The developer's traffic plan fails to address the chaos that will be created on North Avenue, Wells Street, and Eugenie by having the entrance so close to a troubled intersection and only accessible coming from north.

I am asking that you support compromise.  I am not opposed to development and want your support in ensuring that any development at this site is responsible and supported by the greater Old Town Community.

I support:

  • A building consistent with similar, recent Old Town developments – 8 stories.
  • Working with the Community and CDOT to ensure the Fern Hill project does not increase traffic congestion and the review of items such as the garage entrance.
  • Agreed to date by when the gas stations will be closed and removed.
  • An agreement (in writing) that the space formerly occupied by Treasure Island will only be utilized by a grocery store.
  • Meeting with the business community to discuss how the Fern Hill development can avoid disruption to their businesses during construction and help broker realistic agreements.

Thank you in advance for supporting the Old Town community in finding a compromise plan.

Respectfully,

(Your Name and Address)
